theory of relativity: "make him go away!"

i've recently encountered an interesting situation that has come up a few times. I'll be working a set and some girl, sometimes not even in the set, will ask me to "make that guy leave me alone." My response thus far has been either to engage the girl (until he leaves) or the guy in a conversation about the theory of relativity. well, it works very effectively. either she will be seemingly totally absorbed in what I'm talking about and dude will slink off, or (if I'm talking to the dude) he'll get a little frustrated before moving off. But I can't help thinking I'm handling the situation wrong and simply supplicating. It's a really odd position to be put in. On an interesting side note, i don't think anybody finds the theory of relativity to be an interesting topic (I do, I must be weird.)
This shit is like total people repellent. Also, If you want to make a chick leave you alone, I've found the topic of the Vietnam war is also very effective. Much better than saying "go away you damn ug!"
